Over the past few years, I’ve talked to a lot of people about how they’re using AI in different ways. And I’ve noticed something: despite the fact that AI is supposed to make it easier to do things like write a blog post, a lot of people are still struggling.
I started to notice this thread in so many different conversations that I decided to commission a survey on the topic to see if it confirmed my hunch: AI alone isn’t always enough to make writing blog posts for your business faster or easier.
The survey DID confirm exactly this. In fact, I found that 47% of full-time workers found that they wrote at exactly the same speed or slower with AI than without it.

I also discovered that over 20% of people spend two or more full workdays trying to get a blog post or article out of AI.
Not exactly the time saving results we were all expecting, is it?
If you’ve been experiencing the same struggles — feeling like your AI content attempts are slow, clunky, or just sound “off” — you aren’t alone. And the problem isn’t you, or that you need to “learn how to prompt.“
The problem is that AI simply responds to and amplifies all of the things you already might struggle with. If you’ve had trouble:
- Coming up with the right kind of content to write
- Knowing what to write about
- Establishing your brand voice
- Editing your content
- Getting your blog posts and webpages to rank well in Google search or the AI Overview
… then you need to back up a few steps before trying to incorporate AI into the process. You need to know:
- What you want to write about
- What kind of content your potential audience will expect or want to see
- How to structure your content in a way that works well for people and search engines
When you have those three things down pat, you’ll be able to create content faster and easier than before. You‘ll likely even find that you can write content faster without AI than with it, as you won’t have to go through multiple iterations and editing attempts to get the words to “sound right".
